THIBODAUX — St. Charles bounced back from a pair of losses to Rummel and John Curtis in convincing fashion Wednesday, besting Thibodaux on the road, 6-2.
Jared Keating was 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, helping his own cause as he earned his seventh victory on the mound. Keating (7-2) pitched a complete game, allowing four hits while walking one. He struck out six.
“Jared pitched well for the most part,” said St. Charles coach Paul Waguespack. “Sometimes you don’t realize how well he throws until you look at the box score. They put five runners on in the first, but he didn’t have much problem after that. There was one more inning with four.
“I can’t say enough about the job he’s doing.”
Chad McNeil was also 2 for 3 for SCC (22-10) with a double and an RBI.
St. Charles scored in each of the first three innings, the big blow landing in the second when the Comets put up three runs on a Keating two-RBI single and an RBI double by Austin Ourso. SCC led 5-1 after three innings. Thibodaux (20-9) scored one more in the fifth, but SCC answered with a final run in the top of the seventh.
“We hit a bunch of balls hard,” said Waguespack. “We didn’t get as many runs out of our 10 hits as we’d like. But lots of balls hit hard, and I’m happy with that. We just need to continue to improve, particularly with runners in scoring position.
“There’s still room to improve. We played well Wednesday, but you can’t let yourself be satisfied right now.”
Saturday marks the last regular season game for the Comets as they host Eunice (22-6) at 2 p.m.
