Reader sees lack of unity as key to society’s ills

Dear Editor:

I was truly saddened to hear of the recent tragedy in Arizona. However, it should have been expected.

The cause of the incident was division. Division is apparent in many aspects of this country.

We are supposed to be “one nation under God.” To be one requires unity. There are racial divisions. There are economic divisions — upper, middle, and lower class. There are religious divisions known as denominations. Then, of course, there are political divisions.

Division can ultimately lead to destruction. At some point, things will have to change.

The tragedy in Arizona is a wake-up call.
