LAPLACE – St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s deputies are still seeking information on an apparent home invasion in LaPlace Thursday in which the residents were robbed of cash at gunpoint.
Capt. Dane Clement, public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office, said detectives are following leads but have little new information on the alleged break-in, which took place just before 3 a.m. Thursday in the 8800 block of Sunnyside Drive in LaPlace. He said no one was hurt during the incident.
According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the victims told deputies two men broke through the front door of the home and proceeded to a bedroom where a man and a woman were sleeping. One of the suspects, armed with a gun, fired a shot in the bedroom and threatened to kill the two in the room if they didn’t give him money.
“The victims gave the suspects a purse and a wallet,” Clement said. “The perpetrators then left the residence and fled in an unknown direction.”
Clement said both suspects wore dark colored pants and dark colored hooded shirts. Both had some kind of cover over their faces. The two made off with a small sum of cash.
Two other occupants of the home were asleep on a sofa in the front room where the suspects entered, Clement said, but nothing was taken from them. He said no one was injured during the burglary.
Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the St. John Sheriff’s Office at 985-652-9513.
