On Sunday, Nov. 28, the St. James Parish Pageant Sugar Queen Committee held a reception in honor of Hailey Keller becoming Louisiana Queen Sugar LXIX and her official crowning of the new Miss St. James Parish Queen 2010, Megan Waguespack.

The reception was held at the home of Nick and Lindsay Cambre in Paulina.

Keller had first won the parish title of Miss St. James Parish back in July. That entitled her to compete at the Louisiana Sugar Festival at the end of September in New Iberia. After winning the title of Louisiana Queen Sugar, the title of Miss St. James Parish then was passed down to Keller’s next available maid from the parish pageant. Megan Waguespack was the first Maid in the parish pageant. So she then assumes the title of Miss St. James Parish.

At the reception attended by committee members, friends, family, visiting queens and Parish President Dale Hymel Jr., Keller officially crowned Waguespack the new Miss St. James Parish 2010. Waguespack will attend other fairs, festivals and pageants throughout the state representing the parish along with the Teen Miss St. James Parish Mallory Duhe.

Keller is the 22-year old daughter of Kelly and Tracy Keller of Paulina. She is a 2007 graduate of Lutcher High School. Presently, Keller is attending Louisiana State University majoring in education with a master in speech pathology. Some of her hobbies include reading, spending time with family, going down the river and traveling. She is a certified childcare provider and is CPR and first-aid certified. She is also employed as assistant director at Smart Start Academy, a day care and preschool in Gonzales.

Waguespack is the 20-year old daughter of Larry and Renee Waguespack of Paulina. She is a 2008 graduate of Lutcher High School. Presently, Waguespack is attending Southeastern Louisiana State University majoring in marketing. Some of her hobbies include shopping the makeup counters and hair salons, baking and decorating cakes and cooking. She also enjoys doing makeup for others for weddings and pageants.
