Polls across St. John the Baptist Parish closed at 8 p.m., and the results from the two local races are in.
Incumbent Russ Wise will retain his seat as District 8 representative on the St. John School Board. Wise defeated his opponent, Beverly Harris, by a margin of 56 percent to 44 percent. That translates to 831 votes for Wise and 646 votes for Harris.
In the other election exclusive to St. John, the proposal to rededicate part of a 1 percent sales tax for maintenance and improvements to the parish’s water system passed. With 97 percent of precincts reporting, the proposal has already garnered 65 percent of the vote.
