LUTCHER – The town of Lutcher, in partnership with St. James Parish, recently purchased a grapple truck in an effort to bring a new curbside service for residents living in the eastern St. James Parish town.

Starting Thursday, parish workers will come to residents’ homes to assist with disposing of vegetative waste such as tree branches, limbs, shrubs or green plants, said parish spokesperson Melissa Wilkins. All pick-up services will have to be scheduled by 3 p.m. on Wednesday of every week.

Wilkins said all vegetative waste must be separated from household trash and placed at least 12 feet from the street.

Construction materials, wood or plastic items will not be picked up as part of the service.

To receive the service residents will need to add their name, address and phone number to a list recorded by the Lutcher Town Hall, located at 2500 Louisiana Ave., Wilkins said. Names can be added by phone by calling 225-869-5564.

“We are working hard to improve services and support to our residents in District 2,” said St. James Parish Councilman Jason Amato, who represents the Lutcher area.

All waste products will be delivered to the parish collection center.
