Judge Gravois re-elected; Landry wins Republican runoff

Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Jude Gravois was re-elected Saturday for the Second District, Division A seat on the court.
Gravois, a Democrat from Vacherie, received 80 percent of the vote (9,669 votes). Challenger Daniel Becnel Jr., a Democrat from LaPlace, received 20 percent, or 2,447 votes.
In the Republican runoff for the Third Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, Republican Jeff Landry of New Iberia was the winner over Republican Hunt Downer of Houma.
With most votes counted, Landry led by 65 percent. He will face Democrat Ravi Sangisetty, a Houma lawyer, in the November general election.
Landry received 71 percent, 70 percent and 80 percent of the vote in St. John, St. James and St. Charles parishes, respectively.
