Learn from your mistakes

Jail ministries can be challenging and discouraging if you think the success depends on you and not God. It is impossible to measure the results, but I am encouraged knowing that God’s Word never comes back void.
The following is a letter I received from a young man who was incarcerated a few months ago at the Sherman Walker Correctional Center:

Dear Mr. Keller,
I hope you are still doing well with your Get High on Life program, and I want you to know I still have you and your family in my prayers each and every night. I also still want to treat you to a lunch or dinner to thank you for putting me back on track with life and leading me back to God’s Word. It has been a blessing and words cannot explain how much I appreciate it.
If you want, tell everyone in LaPlace I said “Hey” and that we all make mistakes in life causing us to stumble and fall, but it is what you do after that fall that counts. So throw the past away and reach for a better and brighter future.
Now, as for me, I am still attending Bible discussion groups up here in South Carolina. I’m going to church service every Sunday and work out to stay a little healthy. I’m taking some college courses that they offer up here for business and am steadily pressing forward for that brighter future and keeping my head up.
I will get released sometime in December. I just don’t know what day.
Well, as always, thanks for your time in reading this and hope to hear from you soon.
I’m not afraid to say this and so here it goes. I love you, Jesus loves you, and God loves you, too. May God continue to bless you, your family and your ministry program.
Your brother in Christ,
John”
P.S. If you could send me another Word for You Today for the months of September – November that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tell Lt. L.J. and Mr. Danny I said “Hello.”
