LAPLACE –St. John the Baptist Parish authorities are looking for a LaPlace man wanted in connection with an armed robbery on Ormond Boulevard in LaPlace Monday evening.

Capt. Andy Breaux, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said the incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 100 block of Ormond Boulevard. The 22-year-old victim told deputies he was walking toward his home when he was approached by a black male that he knew as Carlshane Dennis, 21 of LaPlace.

Breaux said Dennis allegedly asked the victim for a cigarette, and when he turned to grab one from his pocket, he heard Dennis cock a weapon. The victim then felt a gun being pressed to his head.

“The suspect ordered the victim not to move and give him everything,” Breaux said. “With the victim’s  back facing the suspect, the suspect began searching the victim’s pockets and retrieved an unknown amount of cash from one of the pockets.”

Breaux said once Dennis had the cash, he turned around and began running toward the street. He said when the victim turned around, he observed that Dennis was carrying a black unknown type of handgun.

The victim was not injured during the incident.

Breaux said Dennis then got into a vehicle and fled the scene into an unknown direction. He said authorities have issued an arrest warrant for Dennis in connection with the robbery.

The Sheriff’s Office would not release Dennis’s last known address in LaPlace.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact St. John Parish Sheriff’s Detective Walter Stevens at 985-359-8769.
