LAPLACE – Brady Hitt’s double to right field scored Jared Keating and lifted St. Charles to a come from behind victory over Jesuit in extra innings, 5-4, in a non-district game at Comet Field on Monday.
The victory allowed to the score with the Blue Jays — Jesuit (10-12) topped the Comets (18-4) early in the season at Riverside’s tournament.
Keating drew a walk to begin the eighth inning. Jesuit retired Shane McNeil and Donnie Savoie before Hitt stepped to the plate to deliver the game-deciding blow.
The win followed another strong victory for SCC, a 4-3 win over Class 3A Livonia.
Jesuit took an early 2-0 lead and held it into the sixth inning, when Brandon Becker smashed a two-run home run to right field to tie the game. Marc Picciola singled to set up that opportunity.
Grant Authement would walk and Nick Reine singled to continue the inning. SCC called a successful double steal, and an errant throw led to Authement scoring to make it a 3-2 SCC lead.
But some SCC mistakes hurt their cause in the seventh inning. Jesuit cashed in on a hit batter and an error, chasing those with a two-run base hit to lift the Blue Jays back into a 4-3 lead.
In the seventh, Hitt walked, Matt Bonnecarre sacrifice bunted him to second base, and Picciola singled home the tying run.
Henri Faucheux started for SCC. He went6.1 innings and allowed seven hits while walking three. He struck out six. Cody McMurray (4-1) earned the victory after coming on in relief in the seventh, going 1.2 innings and striking out two. He allowed no hits and hit one batter. Josh Faciene was tagged with the loss for Jesuit.
The Comets held off a late rally by Livonia on Saturday to preserve a one-run victory.
Livonia (21-3) led 1-0 in the fourth inning when Hitt led off the bottom of that inning with a double. Bonnecarre bunted his way on and Picciola walked to load the base for Becker, who hit a game-tying single. With one out, Reine doubled home two more run to make it 3-1. Keating drove in a run via a bunt to make it 4-1.
Livonia scored on an infield hit in the sixth to make it 4-2 and added another on an error in the seventh to pull within a run. But Faucheux entered in relief to strike out the final batter of the game with the tying run on, earning himself a save.
Keating started the game and earned the win.
He allowed two earned runs on six hits, a walk and a hit batter. He struck out nine.
