Life of a fire fighter

Hello, my name is Michael Heath I am going to write a weekly article called. “A Day in the Life of a Fire Fighter.” I am a professional fire fighter in St. John Parish. My official title is fire fighter/operator. I have 40 other brother fire fighters that work with me throughout the parish. We have fire stations in LaPlace, Reserve, Garyville and Edgard. There is a fire fighter at all of these fire stations 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So you can imagine I will have a lot to write about.
The first thing that I would like to talk about is the Relay For Life, which is coming up on May 1. The St. John Professional Fire Fighters are participating in this event to raise money for cancer. We are taking one-time donations or call 504-799-8199 to sponsor a fire fighter. We also participated in Toys for Tots and are going to be involved in Breast Cancer month helping raise money for that cause.
There is so much information out there that the public need to know on having a safe home. There are many little things that a family can do to prevent something bad from happening. I will be writing about many of these things in the future. If there is anything that someone would like to know, please e-mail me, and I will find the answer.
I look forward to the future and hope that I can explain what it is like to be a fire fighter in St. John Parish.
