God lifts me

Half of the time I can’t remember where I parked my car, yet I can vividly recall moments in my Grandmother’s kitchen. It was the scene of many meals, games, conversations, parties, and fun, with the children usually outnumbering the adults. I’m not sure who started lifting the kids and allowing them to sit on top of the refrigerator, but one of my trips down memory lane brought back that image.
The children would gather around an adult, usually my Dad or one of my uncles, and raise our arms, begging to be lifted. Not only did we have to find an adult who was taller and stronger than we were, but we had to find someone who was willing to take the time. I guess the appeal of sitting on top of the refrigerator was the thrill, however momentary, of being able to see everyone and everything from a new perspective.
Often, when in the midst of really tough stuff, I feel like I’m right back in MawMaw’s kitchen, begging to be boosted. While I gain much comfort, wisdom, and support from family members and friends, only the strength of God can truly lift me, and help me to see things from another perspective. Sometimes, His aid brings relief from the stress, and peace when my mind is troubled. Other times, situations actually get turned around. Regardless of the outcome, I’m never disappointed when I turn to God and ask for help. He’s both willing and able for even the toughest of tasks.
