LAPLACE – Volunteers with Marathon Petroleum recently spent time with students at East St. John Elementary leading and instructing the students in a series of hands-on science experiments. All the science experiments correlated to course material that is currently being taught in the classrooms.
East St. John Elementary Master Teacher Nita Jones said the volunteers provided the materials and equipment for each student in the third-grade to conduct nine full experiments. The school set up tables in the school driveway, and the students rotated to the nine experiment stations that were manned by the Marathon volunteers.
“The experiments gave our students an opportunity to ‘put into action’ what they have learned in the classroom,” Jones said. “We are very appreciative of the time and resources that Marathon has so generously given to our students.”
Jones said Marathon is scheduled to conduct a science experiment day for the school’s fourth-graders in the spring.
