HAHNVILLE – St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested two New Orleans men after they broke into the Destrehan home of a 31-year-old woman, who was also arrested on drug charges.

Tevis Curtis, 26, of 4422 N. Rampart St., and Joshua Rogers, 21, of 1418 Carondelet St., were still present inside the home at 75 Carriage Lane when authorities arrived on the scene. A Sheriff’s Office spokesman described the incident as a drug-related incident gone bad.

“When our guys arrived to make the arrest, they found a large amount of marijuana and various drug paraphernalia in plain view,” said Sgt. Dwayne LaGrange, a public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office. “We strongly suspect that some kind of illegal activity was occurring.”

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, the occupants of the home, LaKeasha Grove, 31, and Kyle Durand, 31, called police after Rogers and Curtis forced their way inside and held them hostage at gunpoint. When deputies arrived, they arrested Rogers on armed robbery charges and Curtis for armed robbery, attempted simple burglary and resisting an officer, LaGrange said. Bonds were not available as of press time.

Following the initial arrests, deputies discovered 49 grams of marijuana in several plastic bags, along with assorted pipes commonly used to smoke drugs, sitting in plain view. LaGrange said Grove’s 10-year-old daughter was also present at the home.

Grove and Durand were both booked with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia and use of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance. LaGrange said authorities also recovered a .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun from the home.

LaGrange said detectives are still investigating what exactly took place inside the home.
