Taekwondo Plus competes in state Ho-Am championships

William Cothren’s Taekwondo Plus completed in the Louisiana Ho-Am Taekwondo championships held in Baton Rouge on Mar. 14. More than 650 competitors competed for trophies and awards in forms, free-design forms, and sparring competitions. The belt levels ranged from Tiger Cubs through fourth degree black belt. Winners from Taekwondo Plus included Shealee Schexnayder, (2nd, sparring), Rodney Perkins, Jr. (2nd forms), Tevin Brooks (3rd forms and 1st sparring) Jaiden Casiano (3rd forms, 3rd free style forms and 1st sparring), Kelvinte’ Barber (4th forms), Daniel Miller (2nd forms), Jeff Huffman (1st sparring), Kenya Hicks (3rd sparring), Randall Duhe (3rd sparring) and Timothy Sibley, Sr. (2nd forms). Not Shown: Dalyia Jung (1st place), Tia Williams (4th forms) Thomas Malik (3rd forms), Sean Brown (3rd sparring) Andy Huffman (2nd free design forms and 3rd sparring) and Sherman Jones (3rd sparring).

Ascension of Our Lord wins River Parish Catholic League JV title

The Ascension of Our Lord girls varsity and junior varsity basketball teams recently participated in the River Parishes Catholic League Playoffs. The girls junior varsity team went undefeated were the River Parish Catholic League Junior Varsity Basketball Champions. The girls varsity team only lost one of their games and were named River Parish Catholic League Varsity Girls Basketball Runner Ups. Josh Johnson, Ernest James, and Whitney Johnson coached both the girls varsity and junior varsity teams.

Hunter education courses

HAHNVILLE — The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office will once again be offering hunter education classes for residents living in the River Parishes.

State law requires that all individuals born on or after Sep. 1, 1969, obtain a hunting license prior to hunting in Louisiana. Participants must be 10 years of age or older to be certified. The course will cover topics such as firearm safety, survival, first aid and wildlife identification. There is no cost for these classes.

The classes, which will all be held at the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office Firing Range, will be limited to 30 students and each student must pre-register and attend each day of class. Individuals may either take the entire course at the range or complete part of the course online through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. To pre-register call 985-783-1173. Friday, June 19, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, June 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,

Friday, July 10, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and

Friday, July 24, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 25, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dates for the field days are:

Saturday, Aug. 22, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and

Saturday, Sep. 12, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
