HAHNVILLE – Gunfire in a Boutte neighborhood last Friday morning resulted in the arrest of a Hahnville man and a Houston man, who were both booked on charges of attempted murder, according to a report from the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Lance Smith, 29, 139 Hahn St. Lot 4, Hahnville, allegedly fired shots at two vehicles parked in the 100 block of Boutte Estates Drive, following a fight that included several individuals. The shots shattered the window of  a 2009 Chevrolet Impala.

A passenger in the Impala, Benjamin F. Walls III, 26, of Houston allegedly fired back at Smith as the vehicle drove away. No one was injured in the gunfight, which took place around 5 a.m. Friday.

Authorities said Smith was arrested at the scene and Walls was arrested after he allegedly returned to the scene. Deputies found no weapons at the scene, but did discover a number of shell casings.

The two men were booked into the Nelson Coleman Correctional Facility later that day. Smith was charged with attempted murder and disturbing the peace by fighting. Walls, who was found in possession of marijuana, was booked with drug possession in addition to attempted murder.
