William Moore “Bill” Thomson of LaPlace passed away Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at the age of 82. He is survived by his lovely wife Ruth Dale Smith Thomson of 62 years, two daughters Terri Ruth and husband Richard McGuire of Boerne, Texas, and Janis Kay and husband Todd Boler of Winters, Calif., grandchildren Marcus and Brandi Thomson of Gadsden, Ala., Ryan and Lisa Gregerson of El Dorado Hills, Calif., Marcy and Dave Heasman of Calgary, Canada, and Tiffani McGuire of Bulverde, Texas, six great grandchildren and his devoted canine companion Annie.
He was preceded in death by his father Seth Ward Thomson, mother Gladys Lorena Moore and brother Tommy Moore Thomson, who was shot down over Italy in 1943.
Bill was a veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a retired Chemical Area Supervisor of DuPont, retiring in December 1984 after 34 years of service. He was an avid golfer and also loved to fish. He is a former president of Riverlands Golf and Country Club and was still serving on the Board of Directors. He requested that his ashes be spread on his beloved 50 acres he called the Lazy R in Brownwood, Texas.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend services. Visitation at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, 2806 West Airline Highway in LaPlace on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Followed by Memorial Services at the Funeral Home Chapel. Burial to be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.
