Lutcher captured the Division III boys state championship at Thursday’s Championship Meet at the SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur.

Meanwhile, SCC’s Kaila Klibert brought home an individual state championship for the Comets, while Lutcher’s Hunter Louque secured one for the Bulldogs.

Klibert took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02:84, beating out St. Louis’ Anne Claire Babineaux (1:03.90). Klibert also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle event.

Louque captured first place in the 100-yard freestyle (50.17) and second place in the 200-yard freestyle.

The Bulldog girls captured third place overall. St. Charles took third place among boys and sixth place among girls.

Lutcher outpaced second place Parkview Baptist in the boys standings by scoring 428 points to Parkview’s 282.

St. Louis captured the girls’ crown over second place Parkview, 397 to 315.

Kolby Louque finished first in the 50-yard freestyle. Ryan Chauvin finished third in the 500-yard freestyle.

And the Bulldogs really shined in relay events, capturing the state championship in the 200 (Corey Poche, Mason Duhe, Blake Roussel, Hunter Louque) and 400 (Kolby Louque, Blake Roussel, Dustin Roper, Hunter Louque) freestyle relays.

Among the Lutcher girls, Kristin Roussel took third place in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke to lead the way.

Among the SCC boys, Adam Fisher took second in not only the 100-yard freestyle, but also the 100-yard breaststroke. Alex Zenicki placed third in the 100-yard butterfly. SCC finished second in the freestyle relay.

St. Charles Coach Denise Falgoust says she couldn’t ask for much more from her team, which improved its times across the board.

“I’m very happy with the performance,” she said. “We stress that we will have fun while we work, and we all had a great time and knocked some seconds off.”
