HAHNVILLE — Authorities in St. Charles continue to investigate the parish’s third homicide of the year after a St. Rose man was found early Friday morning with multiple gunshot wounds.
Capt. Pat Yoes, public information officer for the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office, said residents living in the vicinity of the 400 block of 4th Street in St. Rose called police after hearing shots being fired just before 1 a.m. Friday. He said when deputies arrived on the scene they found 26-year-old Deshawn Davis lying on the ground in an open lot not far from his 4th Street home. He had been shot several times in the torso and wrist.
Yoes said Davis was transported to St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling where he was pronounced dead around 2:45 a.m.
Residents living on the block say their street is usually quiet. They said that the sound of the gunfire lured many of neighbors out of their homes and enticed several of them to call 911.
Yoes said that although many residents heard the sound of gunfire, no one has come forward to say they witnessed the shooting take place. Most residents declined to be interviewed, or did not want to be named in the story.
“Many of us are just scared,” said one resident who did not want to be identified. “We never used to have to deal with this sort of thing here. He was a good neighbor.”
Yoes said that detectives have yet to determine a motive in the shooting and have no suspects at this time. He said the incident is still under investigation.
Anyone who may have information about the shooting is asked to contact Detective Brad Walsh at 985-783-1135 or 985-783-6807 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP.
