Riverside girls take first, boys second at meet

After competing in its opening track meet of the year without a full compliment of athletes, the Riverside girls’ were back at full strength on Wednesday.
It showed.
The Lady Rebels took a first place finish on it’s home track on Thursday, taking four individual first place finishes and two wins in the relay.
Riverside was missing a number of athletes on the softball team in its first meet last Wednesday,, due to a game at Chalmette.
“Having the full team there really helped,” said Riverside girls’ track coach Joe Trosclair. “We did much better overall. Hopefully, we can continue at the same level we did (Wednesday) and have a shot at repeating in district.
Meanwhile, the Rebels’ boys team took a second place finish, including two individual first place finishes and two wins in the relay.
The St. Martin’s boys team finished in first place.
The field included St. Charles, Reserve Christian, Fisher, and Ponchatoula.
Maurie Laiche took first place honors in the girls’ 100 and 200-meter dash.
Jessica Price finished first in the girls’ javelin with a throw of 108 feet, while Sarah Levin finished second with one of 105.
Riverside also took the top two spots in the girls’ discus throw, with Marci Millet taking first with a throw of 98 feet, and Chelsea Simon taking second with one of 85.
Brittany Prejean finished second in the high jump with a leap of 4’6.
Riverside also captured each of the 4×100 and 4×200 relay events. The team consisted of Laiche, Millet, Heidi Garcich, and Shea LaFountain.
Jesse LeBlanc was the standout from the boys side, capturing first in the 400 and the 1600.
Each relay team captured the 4×100 and 4×200 on the boys side as well. The team consisted of Remi Poirrier, Jade Falgoust, Wade Laiche and Josh Tassin.
