LAPLACE — St. Charles basketball picked up some wins this week, including a triple overtime victory by the boys squad over St. Michael.
The girls split a pair of games this week, taking a 50-16 win over East Jefferson and a 50-40 loss from Country Day.
In the boys game Tuesday, the Comets had to rally from a four point defecit going into the third quarter. Behind Jonathan Bonura’s game-high 37 points, the SCC squad came back to tie it up to send it into extra periods, three of them before it would be decided.
The Comets moved to 4-9 on the year with the win.
On Thursday afternoon, the Lady Comets took the SCC floor in a dominant win over East Ascension.
Brooke Becker led all scorers in this one with 28 points. She got off to a fast start as the SCC squad jumped out to a quick ten point lead that grew throughout the game.
At halftime, the score was 38-9.
Michelle Marzoni added 11 more points in the game, which finished with a 50-16 score after the reserves came in.
The win puts the Lady Comets at 7-9 on the season heading into the Riverside basketball tournament just before Christmas holidays. The girls team will then break until January when they start a home stand against Country Day.
“We’ve got a long road still ahead of us,” said SCC coach Erin Bacas. “But I like where we are now. We’re progressing nicely.”
