EDGARD-Ferry service at the Reserve/Edgard site will be temporarily stopped beginning October 12.
Captain Harry Nicholas Jr., a spokesperson for the Department of Transportation’s marine unit said, “The ferry will be closed in order to rebuild the levees near the ferry landings on the west bank in Edgard.”
“Cement blocks will be placed in the water and near the levee banks to help prevent erosion,” he said.
“A large part of the levee on the west bank has already been reinforced but the part near the ferry landing was put off so people could cross using the ferry,” Nicholas said.
There will also be some minor repairs to the landing and repairs could take as much as four months. With the closing of the ferry, option to crossing the river are either the Luling or Gramercy bridges. There is no other ferry service available.
