RESERVE – Riverside fans got quite a game Thursday afternoon when the Rebels took on John Curtis in a heated game in every sense of the word for a 3-2 win.
Under a baking sun, the two teams tangled themselves into a 2-2 standoff through regulation to force extra innings. Still at a stalemate after the eighth, Riverside got out of a jam in the top of the ninth to take the victory in the bottom half on a shot to deep centerfield by Donny Terrio with two runners in scoring range. The hit, with only one out in the inning, was one of a clutch four hits that the Rebles had in the game.
Before the overtime, things stayed tight throughout as both teams played for the advantage. Through four, it looked as though the two teams were playing to a draw, but in the fifth and sixth innings, both finally broke onto the scoreboard, each with a pair. But Rebel pitcher Jonathan Giroir held the Patriots scoreless through the through the rest of the game to finish up with a 3-2 win.
The Rebels return to action when they play against the first place Comets on Tuesday afternoon in LaPlace.
