An offensive barrage in the third and fourth innings of Friday’s girls district 10-2A softball matchup game propelled the St. Charles Catholic Lady Comets past the Riverside Academy Lady Rebels in a 10-2 Comets victory.

The Rebels got off to an early start striking first with a solo run home run by short-stop Marcy Millet. The Rebels, behind pitcher Nicole Poirrier, managed to hold the Comets scoreless until the third inning when second baseman Katie Reine scored the first Comet run that led to a four-run third inning to which proved to be all the run support they needed.

The Comets broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning on an RBI double by left fielder Amanda Savoie to make it 2-1. The Comets maintained the driver’s seat from then on. After a four run third inning, the Comets came back in the fourth and scored another two runs to drive the lead to 6-2.

The Lady Rebels added a run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by left fielder Lori Bourgeois that drove in Millet. That would be the last time the Rebels scored as the Comets drove in the final four runs of the contest.

Up 7-2 in the top of the sixth with one out, shortstop Addy Reine nailed a deep shot for a double. Savoie, who went 2-3 on the day, drives Reine in on the next at bat with a left field line drive making the score 8-2. Catcher Lauren Coniglio, finished off the four-run sixth inning with a towering two-run homer that sailed over the left field wall to increase the Comets lead 10-2.

Pitcher Ashley Trosclair improved to 7-2 overall with the five hit, seven strikeout outing. The Comets are 2-0 in district play and 9-7 overall. The Rebels fall to 3-15 on the season.

St. Charles will host the Lady Rebels in the district rematch March 28.
