St. Charles Mary Clement gets 19 in sixth win
LAPLACE– St. Charles’ girls basketball squad pulled to 6-7 for the season on Wednesday when the Lady Comets hosted Ecole Classique’s Spartans and ran away with a 62-39 victory.
SCC took command of the game early, taking a 15-5 lead by the time that the first quarter of play had ended. The Spartans offense came around in the second period with a string of buckets to keep it within range and headed into halftime down 28-18.
Ecole gave the SCC crowd a scare mid-way through the third quarter by closing the gap to 36-29 after applying full court pressure and trap defenses, but a 3-pointer by Michelle Marzoni and a pair of baskets by Gina Monica broke the momentum and the Lady Comets finished off the Spartans for a 62-39 final.
Mary Clement led all scorers in the game with 19, while Marzoni posted 15 and Monica chipped in 12. St. Charles returns to action this Thursday in Central Lafourche and is scheduled to play in the Rumble on the River Tourney in Westwego after Christmas.
