LUTCHER– The Lady Bulldogs have opened their basketball season on a high note, as they took two games early in the Port Allen Jamboree and topped Ascension on Monday with a convincing 57-38 victory.
The jamboree opened play for Lutcher last week as the Lady Bulldogs knocked off Parkview Baptist in the first game by a score of 21-10, and Livonia by a commanding 33-3 score. The jamboree results do not go toward season records as the unofficial matches consisted of one ten-minute game.
But Lutcher started their season off officially with a win on Monday in Donaldsonville against ACHS. The Lady Bulldogs came out ferocious, jumping all over Ascension in the first period for an 11-3 lead. By halftime, the Lutcher team had increased that lead to 16, and, led by the game high scorer Randi Donald, came out in similar fashion for the second half.
A 17 point offensive effort in the third period, coupled with a defensive stand that allowed 13, put the Lady Bulldogs in charge with a 44-25 advantage. Lutcher posted 13 more points in the final quarter, but held off any signs of a rally by Ascension for a final score of 57-38.
Sophomore Taja Franklin aided in the effort by recording 12 points, while junior Rynique Perkins contributed nine and sophomore Tyriel Dominick netted six.
Lutcher returns to action on Monday with a home game scheduled against St Helena at 5 p.m. They will take their team on the road on Tuesday for the Christian Life Tournament before returning to host Port Allen at the end of the month.
