ASSUMPTION — East St. John (6-1, 3-0) traveled to take on Assumption High (0-5, 0-3) last week and racked up 529 yards in offense and seven touchdowns for a 58-13 district win.
The Wildcats pounced on Assumption early in the first six minutes of the game when Johnny Owen broke for a 33-yard touchdown rush that led to an extra point and a 7-0 lead. Just three minutes later, receiver Louis Lee pulled in a pass from quarterback Johnnie Thiel and went the 48-yard distance for another score and an extra point.
ESJ would continue to pour it on, adding another rushing touchdown, this one for 49-yards from Owen, before finally allowing a 68-yard Assumption drive that resulted in a 6-yard touchdown pass for a 20-7 score in just the first quarter.
The second quarter saw much of the same as ESJ put together three consecutive scoring drives for a pair of Ricky Dixon touchdown rushes and a Dixon to Roy James 25-yard pass to take a 39-7 lead into halftime.
Dixon would strike for his third touchdown of the day, punching in a 2-yard run that capped an 80-yard drive with 1:01 left in the third.
The Wildcats posted two more touchdowns as the game wound down, a 35-yard touchdown run from junior Joshuell Tuesno and a 21-yard rush from Owen. Assumption was able to get on the board once more with a 59-yard touchdown catch, for a 58-13 final.
At quarterback, Thiel and Dixon shared time and combined to go 11-of-21 with 205 yards passing. Owens led all running backs with 10 rushes for 109 yards and three touchdowns. Louis Lee also added a pair of touchdowns and led all receivers with 7 catches for 184 yards. Antoine Fisher led on the defensive line with four sacks, while defensive back Lacardio Joseph pulled in two interceptions.
The Wildcats return to Reserve in their game scheduled against West Jefferson (2-2, 1-1) this Friday in Reserve.
