GARYVILLE — St. John the Baptist Parish Library System opens the Frazee-Harris branch in Garyville on Saturday.
The grand opening for the new library will be held at 10:30 a.m. and will remain open to the public until 2:30 p.m., according to Executive Director Randy DeSoto with the St. John Parish Library System.
“This project went very well,” DeSoto said. “We did have a few problems after Hurricane Katrina, but we did not want to delay the opening of the library any longer.”
The new library is a 5,500-sq.ft. steel structure, which is considerably larger than the previous 1,600-sq.ft. library, located next to the Garyville Post Office. The project totaled around $835,000.
“This library is going to be a larger building,” DeSoto said. “It will be a place where collection can grow. We will have a program/meeting room for community use and more public access computers.”
The library will reopen again to the public on Monday.
