LAPLACE-The host team was happy with the way they finished.

Mission accomplished.

Paced by Gage Alleman’s brief record-breaking performance in the 100 Individual Medley, Belle Terre finished in fourth place in the River Parishes Invitational this past weekend.

Along with Alleman’s 232 points, James Krawczyk finished with 201 points, Jennifer Broussard had 232 points, Laura Bailey had 235 points, Lauren Broussard had 222 points and Blake Gillies had 222 points.

“It was a great way to end the season,” Belle Terre Coach Monica Scioneaux said. “I am very proud of our swimmers. Having the meet be pushed back a week like it did due to Hurricane Dennis, I was happy to see so many swimmers still be able to make it. Overall the meet was a great success. We were the home team, we were proud to sponsor the meet and the kids had a lot of fun.”

Scioneaux said her team really enjoyed the home-pool advantage.

“They were thrilled,” Scioneaux said. “We had several kids that not only swam, but worked so hard throughout the weekend. Some were in the concession stand, some were upstairs helping with labels, and we just had 100-percent participation from everybody.”

Concluding the season, Scioneaux was also happy to see such an improvement from the first day of practice with her team.

“You could definitely see the improvement,” Scioneaux said. “There are still several things that the kids can still learn to improve on, but overall it was definitely a big improvement from day one of practice to now.

“This year was actually considered a building year for us. We had small numbers with a lot of new kids. With the country club as a whole under new ownership, we are hoping to gain some new members.”

Scioneaux said hosting an event as prestigious as the River Parishes Invitational will definitely help that effort.

“I definitely think that our numbers will continue to increase,” Scioneaux said. “This event will definitely help us. ”
