UNO BASEBALL CAMP DELAYED, REGISTRATION SET FOR THIS WEEK

The University of New Orleans baseball camp slated for Monday, July 11, to Friday, July 15, at Maestri Field will not meet Monday due to Hurricane Dennis.

Registration for the camp will now start at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Maestri Field and the camp will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day through Friday. Those individuals who have already registered will be refunded for the loss of the originally slated first day of camp.

SOUTHEASTERN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CAMP SET

Southeastern Louisiana University head women’s basketball coach Lori Davis Jones will hold a pair of summer camps in the upcoming weeks on the university campus.

The Lori Davis Jones Individual Camp runs July 18-21, while the Elite Camp is scheduled for Aug. 5 and 6. The camps will be held at the University Center and the Pennington Student Activity Center. Campers will receive instruction from Jones, assistant coaches Eric Dumas, Brent Harris and Catherine Spangler Dehlin, as well as current and former Lady Lion players.

The individual camp is open to campers age 4-17. Rookie campers age 4-7 will be registered for $65. The cost for day campers is $130 and $280 for overnight campers, who will have an additional evening session included. The cost is $25 for early bird campers. The early bird session runs from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. on July 19-21 and is designed to give eager campers an opportunity to receive additional teaching. Meals are included in the camp cost, with the exception of Rookie Camp.

The two-day Elite Camp costs $100.00 and is open to females in grades 7-12. Included in the cost is housing, meals and Lady Lion gear. The camp will provide players an opportunity to compete against the best players in the Gulf South. Camp emphasis will be on team play, with an All-Star game on Friday night as well as at the end of camp on Saturday. The Lady Lion coaching staff will also provide one-on-one specialized instruction during the camp.

JUNIOR GOLF CAMP SCHEDULED FOR JULY

All boys and girls ages 7-17 are encouraged to participate. Belle Terre Country Club members, friends and guests are eligible. The golf camp will be held each Tuesday in July. The dates are July 5, 12, 19 and 26th. The program will begin at 9:30 and end at 12:00. The entry fee is $75 per player and includes hands on PGA instruction, prizes and lunch each day. Included with the mail payment, please include name, age, phone number, parents name, have you ever played golf and do you have golf clubs. GOLF TOURNAMENT SET

LaPlace area junior golfers ages 11-18 are invited to compete in the Turnberry Open at The Moors Golf Course in Milton, Florida on Saturday-Sunday, July 16-17. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is sanctioned and ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and hosted by the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour.  Registration deadline is Saturday, July 9 at 6:00 P.M.  Please call 850-243-6333 or register to join the tour online at www.arrowheadjgt.com.

COMETS FOOTBALL CAMP SET

The St. Charles Catholic 2005 Youth Football Camp is set for July 18-21. Camp runs from 8:30-11:30 daily for ages 7-13. Cost is $50. Camp includes instruction at all positions, pro demonstrations, weight training, camp t-shirt, highlight films, “Iron Boy” contest, touch football games, skill tests, races and punt pass and kick contest. HEAT YOUTH ORGANIZATION

Football registration for the Heat Youth Organization is set for the 2005 football season. For ages 6-12. Registration is set for June 20-24 and July 11-15 at Regala Park from 5:30-7:30. SUMMER HOOPS COMING TO YOUR CITY

NEW ORLEANS – For the fourth consecutive summer, the New Orleans Hornets will host free basketball clinics for children at locations throughout Louisiana and Mississippi. Sponsored by Ochsner Clinic Foundation and Hibernia National Bank, these clinics are open to children ages 7 to 14.

“Summer is a great time for us to share the game of basketball with kids”, said Hornets team president Paul Mott. “We’re pleased to welcome Ochsner and Hibernia to our Summer Hoops team, and with their help we look forward to once again reaching out to thousands of children across the region.”

Pre-registration is required, and forms are available at hornets.com, the Hornets Sales Center at the New Orleans Arena, and the locations listed below. Space is limited to 200 kids per half-day session, with 7-to-10 year-olds participating in the morning from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 11-to-14 year-olds participating in the afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

The Summer Hoops Tour will begin in New Orleans on July 11 at Joe Brown Playground and conclude at the Alario Center in Westwego on Aug. 8. A complete tour schedule is provided at www.nba.com/hornets
