RIVERSIDE SOFTBALL CAMP SET

Riverside’s 2005 softball camp will be held on May 31-June 2. The site is the Lady Rebel softball field. Drills will begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon. The cost is $45 and any girls grades 1-7 may attend.

Registration will be taken up to May 31. You can register on that day at the school if you wish. Registration forms are available at Matherne’s Supermarket, Sandwich World, Don’s Country Store, Gregg’s Neighborhood Store and Roussel Tire and Car Care Center.

Camp directors are Riverside Head Coach Mickey Roussel, assistant coach Missy Martin and several high school players.

DESTREHAN BASEBALL CLINIC SET

The 2005 Class 5A State runners-up annual baseball clinic is set for May 31-June 3 for ages 8-14 from 8-4. Cost is $150 per player. Instructors include Destrehan Head Coach Marty Luquet, assistant coaches Terry Joseph, Donnie Diodene, Chris Mixe, Bill Calhoun and Earl Incardona. Campers will be limited to eight players per coach. RIVERSIDE BASKETBALL CAMP SET

The annual Riverside Academy Basketball camp is set for June 27-July 1 at the Riverside Academy gymnasium. Registration deadline is June 7, 2005. Camp times are 9-12:30 for all boys and girls entering grades 1-7. Cost is $45. The camp is designed to encourage solid fundamentals in all areas of the game and will feature guest speakers, demonstrations by Rebel Basketball players, group and individual instruction, contests, live games and a camp T-shirt for all participants. ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH SUMMR CAMP SET

The recreation department of St. John the Baptist Parish is again sponsoring its annual summer youth program. All youth ages 4-12 years are eligible to register. East Bank campsite is Fifth Ward Elementary located on 158 Panther Drive in Reserve and the West Bank campsite is set for West St. John Elementary school in Edgard. The fee for the duration is $50 per child to be paid at the time of registration. NO REFUNDS AND NO CHECKS.

Camp time is set for 9-3 Monday-Thursday. Lunch will be provided with bus transportation to and from all sites. Activities include tee-ball, kick-ball, basketball, board games, arts and crafts, story/reading activities, swimming, resource participations and talent activities.

Registration on the East Bank is set for May 25-June 1 at the recreation department in LaPlace next to Walgreen’s at 1801 West Airline Highway. Office hours are 8:30-4:30 Monday-Friday with June 1 registration ending at noon (NO EXCEPTIONS). ATTENTION EAST ST. JOHN FOOTBALL PLAYERS

On Monday, June 6 from 4-7, all incoming East St. John ninth graders as well as varsity players are to report to the Field House.

HIGHPOWER RIFILE CLINIC AND MATCH

The Southwest Louisiana Rifle and Pistol Club, in cooperation with the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk is pleased to announce that a Civilian Marksmanship High Power Rifle Clinic and Match will be held on May 28-29. The clinic will begin at 8 a.m. and will be conducted at Range 23 located on Mill Creek Road, Fort Polk. A driver’s license or other official picture ID will be required to enter the military reservation. Junior shooters without identification may accompany properly identified parent or guardian.

The clinic will consist of classroom type instruction on gun safety, proper marksmanship techniques with the AR-15 rifle and target scoring. After a short break, the participants will move to the 200-yard line and fire a 50-round match with the AR-15 rifle. Completion of the clinic makes shooters with State Association Membership eligible for the CMP M1 program and qualified to shoot in future High Power Matches.

It is an excellent for a father and son/daughter event. The cost of the clinic and 50-round match is $45 for adults and $25 for juniors. The Louisiana Shooting Association will provide ammunition and rifles.

Shooters that own their own M-1 Garands, M1A or AR-15 rifles may participate in the clinic at reduced cost but must provide their own ammo, ball only, no AP or tracer allowed.

An 80-round National match will be held on May 29 at Range 23 for classified shooters. Shooters must provide all their own equipment and ammo. Squadding for the match begins at 7:30 at the 500-yard line. Cost of the match is $20 for adults, $10 or juniors.

To find Range 23, enter at the Main Gate, follow Louisiana Avenue to Texas Avenue. Take a left on Texas Avenue and follow to Mill Creek Road. Take a right onto Mill Creek Road, follow to MP checkpoint. Range 23 is 500 yards past checkpoint on the right.
