RESERVE-Bouncing back after a difficult loss this past week to the hands of soon-to-be district champion Hahnville, the East St. John baseball team got back to their winning ways Thursday afternoon with a dominating 14-4 victory over Ellender.
The win over Ellender put the Wildcats 18-12 overall and 9-5 in district 6-5A.
Never really a close game, the Wildcats pounded Ellender pitching for multiple homeruns and were led at the dish by Travon Marshall and Carwin Brown. Marshall finished the game 3-4 with three runs driven in and Carwin Brown finished 2-3 with a triple and a single run driven in.
East St. John also got a solid performance on the mound from Jamal Breaux. The senior right-hander picked up the win after going five innings and allowing only one run on four hits. He struck out two and walked four.
“We had really good approaches at the plate,” Acting Head Coach Ronald Barrilleaux said after the game. “We talked about that before the game and we really took care of it during the game which was a good thing to see. They all really saw the ball well and in turn had a good day at the plate hitting the ball.”
Barrilleaux said he also continues to see improvement from his squad on the defensive end of things, something that Wildcats have struggled with throughout the season.
“I think so,” Barrilleaux said. “We were pretty solid through five innings and then in the sixth we had a couple of mental errors. That is something that we have to really work hard on straightening up for the final two games of the regular season and the playoffs.”
