It’s the first of several championships that St. Charles Catholic hopes to win.

After two blowout victories, the Comets squeaked by Ascension Catholic in the title game to capture the Southeastern Louisiana All Catholic Tourney Championship, concluding a perfect week of play.

Heading into a tournament at Parkview Baptist, Jeff Montz’s squad is 6-5 on the season

“We’ve had a young team for years,” Montz said. “We started slow to begin the season, but with each game we are getting better and better. We’re gaining more experience every time we are out on the court and coming together as a team. The familiarity is there now. I hope it continues.”

St. Charles Catholic 37 Ascension Catholic 36: In a very sloppy title game, the two teams combined for only eight points after the first quarter and only 22 for the entire first half.

Things picked up quickly in the second half and late in the fourth quarter Ascension Catholic held a 36-30 lead. However, paced by Casey Robottom’s 10 points and nine points from Jonathan Bonura, the Comets scored the last seven points of the game to come away with the victory.

St. Charles Catholic 69 Rabouin 43: Behind 19 points from Andrew Coleman and a dominating defense, the Comets advanced to the title game of SELAC Tournament. After a competitive first quarter, the Comets put the game out of reach in the second quarter, outscoring Rabouin 23-3 to put the game out of reach.

St. Charles Catholic 56 Vanderbilt Catholic 49: Behind a trio of players with 12 points, the Comets held off a late run by Vanderbilt Catholic for an opening round win in the SELAC tournament. Robottom, Coleman and Michael Troglen each had 12 points for the Comets. Opening up a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter, St. Charles Catholic held off a furious run to come away with the victory.
