LAPLACE – An attempted armed robber recently fired gunshots through a LaPlace man’s front door, when the Devon Road resident refused to relinquish his money.

A 47-year-old man living on the 200 block of Devon Road called the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Department at 10:04 p.m. to report an attempted armed robbery on Nov. 18.

The victim told authorities he looked through the front window of his home after hearing a knock on the front door. When he could not clearly see his visitor, he opened the door.

When the door was opened, dogs inside the house began barking.

Backing away from the door, the stranger told the the victim he was afraid of the dogs.

The victim stepped onto his front porch – closing the door behind him to keep the dogs away from the visitor.

According to authorities, the unknown assailant pushed the man after asking him for his money.

When the man turned and went back into his house, the stranger fired shots from a .40-caliber, silver and black, handgun.

Closing his door, the victim called the sheriff’s office.

Officers investigating the crime found a bullet hole in the man’s front door and a bullet cartridge in his front yard.
