St. Charles Catholic mows down Patterson, 42-14

LAPLACE – The St. Charles Comets made that vital step, winning the first round of the prep football playoffs with a 42-14 win over the visiting Patterson Lumberjacks.

Comet phenomenon Tyrell Fenroy contributed four touchdowns for the victory, with his scoring effort met by Casey Robottom’s reception for a TD and Jarvis Sanders’ scamper for the final score.

Fenroy scored on the Comets’ first possession, a 19-yard scamper with 9:19 remaining in the first quarter, capping a four-play drive. The Ben Sellars PAT made it 7-0.

Fenroy scored again late in the first quarter, followin ga 43-yard run from midfield, he capped it with a 9-yard TD with 35 seconds remaining. Again, Sellars posted the PAT.

Early in the second quarter, it was Fenroy again on a 58-yard run for the touchdown with 10:45 remaining in the half. Sellars matched it with his PAT kick.

Patterson finally got on the scoreboard late in the second quarter, as quarterback Brock Landry connected with favorite receiver Warrell Span on a 35-yard play for the touchdown.

The PAT try, however, was successfully blocked by the Comets, leaving the ‘Jacks to trail 21-6 with 5:41 remaining in the second quarter.

Fenroy then got back into the action, with a short pass from quarterback Jesse Martin, which Fenroy turned into a 49-yard scamper for the score, unhindered by any defensive players.

Sellars nailed the PAT and the Comets sat comfortably on a 28-6 lead, going into the half.time break.

Following the second half kickoff, St. Charles marched upfield with Fenroy and Sanders alternating on ball-carrying duties until a fast pass to Robottom from 13 yards out was good for the score. Sellars’ PAT made the tally 36-6 and the Comets continued to ride high.

The Comets continued to dominiate defensively, as they did most of the evening until Landry hit Steven Scott for the 28-yard score with 5:35 remaining. The two-point conversion run by Scott was also good, and the Lumberjacks trailed 35-14.

However, there was one more score left in the St. Charles Comets’ game plan, as the Comets took the kickoff and marched seven play and 65 yards until Sanders blew past the defensive line and dashed into the end zone.

Sellars’ PAT made it 42-14 and held off a last-ditch drive by the Patterson team to keep their score intact.
