Tizzard’s boot kicks winning field goal
DESTREHAN – Destrehan’s Fighting Wildcats tussled with the Thibodaux Tigers, coming away Friday night with a squeaker 23-20 win.
Kicker Kyle Tizzard nailed three field goals to help in the Wildcat victory.
The first quarter went scoreless, but Terrebonne got on the map first, as Todd Russell scored on a 6-yard run, matched by Michael Crome’s PAT to put them ahead 7-0
Chris Bullock, though, rallied the troops and scored on a 1-yard run, matched with Tizzard’s PAT to knot the score at 7-7
Edwin Reed came through in the third quarter on a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to bring the Destrehan squad up to a 14-7 lead.
Then, Terrebonne fumbled on their first series after their kickoff reception, which gave Tizzard his opportunity to kick a 25-yard field goal, setting the Wildcats to a two-score lead, 17-7.
In the fourth quarter, Terrebonne’s Curt Gros scored on a 1-yard run, and the PAT put the Tigers back in the ball game, trailing by only 17-14.
Terrebonne then scored again, with Jerome Anderson scrambling in on a 55-yard run. The PAT failed, though, and the visitors clung to a 20-17 lead.
Tizzard booted his second field goal, a 25-yard effort, to tied the score at 20-20.
Finally, Destrehan kicked off, Terrebonne threw three incomplete passes and punted, and due to Destrehan calling for a fair catch and being hit instead, received a free kick with no defensive rush.
Kyle Tizzard lined up the 44-yard free kick from the 34-yard line and nailed the score, to 23-20.
Bullock rushed 19 times for 111 yards and a touchdown, and quarterback Jai Eugene passed for 110 yards for the evening.
