DUHE
PAULINA – Yvonne Zeringue Duhe, 73, a native of Destrehan and resident of Lutcher, died Oct. 3. She was the wife of Mark Duhe Sr., and mother of Gene, Craig, Gary and Mark Duhe Jr.
She was also the daughter of the late Marie Troxclair and Didier Zeringue, and sister of Lionel and Ernest Zeringue, and the late Julia Hubbell, Genevieve, Wilda, Sidney and Douglas Zeringue.
She is also survived by nine grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 5 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church mausoleum.
EDWARDS
KENNER – Bernice Vilemont Edwards, 82, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Sept. 30. She was the wife of the late Harold Edwards, and mother of Bernice Bell, Marilee Waguespack and William Edwards.
She was also the daughter of the late Marie Adele Perriloux and Louis Vilemont, and sister of Elaine Tamplain, and the late Louise Reine, Colleen Mancuso, George, Jules, Chester, Alvin and Nolan Vilemont.
She is also survived by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one grandchild
Services were Oct. 4 at First Baptist Church of LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.
McDERMOTT
LULING – June W. McDermott, a resident of Luling, died Oct. 2. She was the wife of the late John McDermott, and mother of John and Gary McDermott.
She was also the sister of the late Betty Chapman.
She is also survived by two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 5 at Luling United Methodist Church, with interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Metairie.
ROUSSEL
LAPLACE – Sister Mary Germaine Roussel, O.P., 78, and in her 61st year of religious profession, died Oct. 4. She was born Earline Mary Roussel in Paulina. She was the daughter of the late Morgan Roussel and Carmen Ayme Roussel, sister of Thelma R. Foret, Pearl R. Hymel, Beverly R. Anderson, and Carmen R. Gaudet, Will G. Roussel, and the late Whilem N., Morgan J., and Earl Roussel.
She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from St. Mary’s Dominican College in New Orleans and a master’s degree in education from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She taught at Holy Ghost, Hammond; St. Agnes, Baton Rouge; St. Peter Chanel Interparochial, Paulina; St. Anthony of Padua, St. Leo the Great, and St. Matthias, New Orleans.
She was Diocesan Supervisor of schools in Baton Rouge for eight years, and served as principal of St. Joan of Arc School in LaPlace for 27 years. In 1997, Sister Mary Germaine received the National Catholic Educational Association Distinguished Principal Award. She was the only one of eleven Catholic school principals throughout the United States to receive this award. Sister Mary Germaine also received the Louisiana State Nun of the Year Award presented by the Knights of Columbus Women’s Auxiliary in July 1998. At the time of her death, Sister was the Pastoral Associate for Education at St. Joan of Arc School in LaPlace.
She also named the Krewe Du Monde of LaPlace in a Jaycees-sponsored contest in 1973, winning a loving up with an embedded doubloon.
Services are today at 11 a.m., at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment in the Dominican Sisters Cemetery in Rosaryville, Ponchatoula. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.
VICKNAIR
LAPLACE – Clifton Joseph Vicknair, 86, a native of Edgard and resident of LaPlace for 85 years, died Oct. 2. He was the husband of the late Lena Stein Vicknair, and father of Trudy Madere, Iris Foster, Loretta Lacardo and David Vicknair.
He was also the son of the late Cyril and Beatrice Haydel Vicknair, and brother of Vivian Bergeron, Merlin Vicknair, and the late Hazel Clement.
He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were Oct. 5 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, with interment at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Reserve.
