ESJ Track Meet draws more than 30 teams

RESERVE – A few local high schools did well recently at the East St. John Relays. Local schools East St. John, Destrehan and Hahnville participated in the event. The girls division was won by St. Amant, while the boys division saw Destrehan come in first place.
In the boys division, Destrehan finished with a total of 85 points, narrowly defeating West Jefferson, who finished with 82 points. East St. John finished in fifth place with 55 points, while Hahnville placed sixth with 48 points.
In the girls division, St. Amant finished in first place with 118 points. Locally, East St. John finished tied for third place with 45 points, while Hahnville and Destrehan finished in fifth and ninth respectively.
East St. John’s Korey Raymond finished in first place in both the discuss and shot put. His discuss throw was 145-8 1/2, while the shot put was 44-10 1/2.
Two starting quarterbacks finished in the top three in the javelin competition. Destrehan’s DeMarko Hutchinson took home first place (173-1) and Bryant Lee of Hahnville finished in third with a throw of 159-7.
ESJ freshman Vincent Stewart took home first place in the high jump with a leap of 6-4. He narrowly defeated Chris Populis of Hahnville, who cleared 6-2.
In the track events, Jai Eugene of Destrehan finished in first place with a time of 10:30 in the 100 meters. He also took home first place in the 200 meters (22:25).
In addition, Destrehan placed in second place in the 400-meter relay, finishing behind O. Perry Walker. Hahnville got third place (42:44).
The girls division saw East St. John tie for third place overall with 45 points. Hahnville claimed fifth place with 44 points and Destrehan claimed ninth place with 29 points.
Destrehan’s Shaquida Wells won the long jump (15-11), while Hahnville’s Danielle Saxon won the pole vault with a vault of 6-8.
Wells also claimed second place in the 100 meters with a time of 12:62.
Hahnville’s Ashley Dufrense got second place with a distance of 101-4.
In the triple jump, Vivian Aubert of East St. John got second place in the triple jump (33-10). First place in the pole vault competition went to Danielle Saxon of Hahnville, 6-8.
East St. John took home third place in the 3200 meter run.
