RESERVE – Riverside Academy bats were hot in the first game of the Riverside Tournament, held last weekend. The Rebels punched out 13 runs on 14 hits in a 13-5 romp of Ridgewood.
AJ Delaneuville picked up the victory for the Rebels, while it was pitching by committee for Ridgewood. The Golden Eagles used five different pitchers.
After a scoreless first inning, the Rebels went on to score at least one run in the next four innings. In the bottom of the second, the Rebels scored three runs on two hits. Josh Labiche led-off the inning with a single and stole second. A walk to Jordan Remondet was followed by a single from Nick Falgoust, which scored Labiche. A sacrifice fly courtesy of catcher Cavin Richmond scored Remondet.
Ridgewood, however, fought back in the top of the third with three runs of their own, which tied the game 3-3.
With Anthony Masson on first and Adam Tucker on second, Tyler Walker singled to center, scoring Masson and Tucker. Patrick Mack, the next hitter, nailed a double that scored Walker from first.
The inning ended when Gabe Clark tried to stretch out a triple but was thrown out in the process.
In the bottom of the inning, the Rebels responded with a game high five runs.
With one out, Delaneuville reached first base and then scored on a two-run blast by Chris Reeves, making the score 5-3. Remondet then doubled and scored on a double from Wes Hotard, who finished the game with two hits.
Hotard would then score on a passed ball.
A home run by Delaneuville sparked another run output by Riverside in the bottom of the fourth. His solo homerun was followed by two consecutive walks to Reeves and Josh Labiche. With each runner moving up one base due to a balk, Hotard smashed a single that scored Reeves and Labiche.
Hotard would then score on a Ridgewood throwing error. After four innings, Riverside held a commanding 12-3 lead.
A two-run homerun by Masson in the top of the fifth cut the Golden Eagles deficit to 12-5. After the homerun, Delaneuville settled down and got the next three hitters out.
The Rebels , who finished 2-1 in the tournament, got their final run in the bottom of the fifth. Jordan Poirrier, who led off the inning with a double, scored on a single courtesy of Labiche.
Top hitters for Riverside included: Falgoust (2-4, 2runs), Jordan Remondet (2-4, 2 runs) and Labiche (2-4, 2 runs).
