BOUTTE – A two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon resulted in the death of a Houma man. A Paradis man is charged with vehicular homicide.

At 1:28 p.m.on Feb. 28, a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero, driven by Cecil Jacobs, 52, of 48225 Old Spanish Trail in Paradis, was westbound on U.S. Highway 90.

Jacobs’ car crossed the center line, according to Trooper Omar Landrum of Louisiana State Police Troop C, and struck an oncoming 1999 Ford Escort.

The Escort was driven by Dale J. Scott, 50, of 100 Chateau Road Apt. 68 in Houma. He was accompanied by a passenger, Sherry M. Naquin, 28, of 207 Oleander St. in Chauvin.

The left front of Scott’s vehicle struck the left front of Scott’s vehicle. The Montero then spun around to the left and came to rest across the left turn lane.

Scott died at the scene as a result of his injuries in the head-on crash. Naquin sustained a broken collarbone and other minor injuries, Landrum said, and was taken to St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling for treatment.

According to Landrum, witnesses of the crash reported seeing the Montero swerving left to right, going off the road onto the shoulder before going across three lanes of traffic to the left.

Jacobs’ car spun 180 degrees and came to a rest across the left eastbound lane.

Jacobs, the driver of the Montero, sustained a broken leg and additional minor injuries. He had to be extracted from his car and was also taken to St. Charles Parish Hospital for treatment.

Landrum added that Jacobs was charged with vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, negligent injury and driving under suspension.

Trooper Mark Navarre is investigating the accident, Landrum said.
