Lady Cardinals too much for Lady Bulldogs

LUTCHER – A forgetful season for the Lutcher Lady Bulldogs continued its dismal season with a 50-21 loss against E.D. White Tuesday night in Lutcher.
Kathryn Fakier and Michelle Waguespack led the Lady Cardinals with 10 points each.
The victory improves E.D. White to 6-1 in district play and puts them into first place.
E.D. White jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead with 3:24 to play in the first period. The run finally ended when Ieshia Johnson nailed a jumper to cut the Lady Bulldogs deficit to 11-2 with 2:00 left in the first quarter.
E.D. White would then score six unanswered points during the final two minutes of the first quarter to give the Lady Cardinals a 17-2 lead with 30 seconds remaining.
It would get worse for Lutcher in the second quarter. A 17-4 lead would grow to a 31-4 lead with 3:35 remaining in the second quarter. Fakier scored six consecutive points for the Lady Cardinals in less than two minutes.
In addition, the Lady Bulldogs were held to only five points in the second quarter. E.D. White outscored Lutcher 14-5 in the second quarter.
At halftime, E.D. White held a commanding 33-7 lead.
An abundance of turnovers in the second half led to the Thibodaux school scoring easy baskets. Lutcher only managed to score one field goal in the third period.
The lone LHS basket came with 3:02 left to play in the third quarter. Lutcher senior Minerva Martin’s jumper made the score 42-9 in favor of the Lady Cardinals. E.D. White outscored Lutcher 11-2 in the third quarter.
The lone bright spot for the Lady Bulldogs came at the start of the final quarter. Lutcher went on a 6-0 spurt to start the fourth quarter, until Catherine Blanchard sank two free throws to end the run.
Two additional free throws from Johnson made the score 48-19 with 2:15 left in the game.
Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Johnson and Martin, both finishing with eight points a piece.
