Voter registration ends today

LAPLACE – Today, Oct. 15, is the final day to register to vote for the Nov. 15 runoff election. To be eligible, voters must be U.S. citizens. If they are 17 years of age, they can still register, provided they will be 18 on or before election day.

Absentee voting is scheduled Nov. 3-8.

Those who wish to register need to produce a photo identification, such as a driver’s license, and proof of address, such as a utility bills, to one of these locations: Department of Social Services, WIC offices, food stamp offices, Medicaid offices, offices serving people with disabilities or armed forces recruitment offices.

Registrar of voters offices are located at the St. John the Baptist Parish courthouse in Edgard (call 497-3425), and at the Percy Hebert courthouse annex in LaPlace (call 652-9797).

In St. Charles Parish, registrar of voters offices are located at the parish courthouse in Hahnville (call 783-5120). In St. James Parish, registrar of voters office are located at the parish courthouse in Convent (call 562-2330) and at the courthouse annex in Vacherie (call 265-3156, extension 403).

To receive a mail-in voter registration application, call the Registrar of Voters office in your respective parish.

The Nov. 15 ballot will include the runoff elections for governor, insurance commissioner and several local races.
