LAPLACE – Another River Parishes high school football player has decided on where he will play college football.

L’Observateur 2002 defensive MVP Chris Cancienne, of St. Charles Catholic High School, committed to the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

“We’re excited Chris will be playing. He’ll get this opportunity to prove to others that he is an impact player as well as a role model,” St. Charles Catholic High School head coach Frank Monica said.

Cancienne’s stats for his final year at SCC speak for themself. The Comets standout had 79 tackles, 14 of which were for losses, one interception, two fumble recoveries, two blocked kicks, and 10 sacks. All of which occurred over a 10-game span.

Academics will not be a problem for Cancienne. He currently has a 3.8 Grade Point Average.

“He exemplifies what a student-athlete should be,” Monica said.

On defense, ULM runs a 4-2-5, which Monica said will fit Cancienne fine.

“He is flexible on defense. He also has speed and quickness. This defense (ULM) will be better suited for him,” concluded Monica.
