LAPLACE – The Hahnville High School Tigers mustered only two hits among four errors to pave the path for the Barbe High School Buccaneers’ nine hits and their 7-1 Class 5A regional victory. Barbe (31-6) opened with one run in the bottom of the first inning, then were held back by the Hahnville defense until scoring one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and then three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Tigers (21-13) put their run on the board in the fifth inning, but could do no more to stay in the championship hunt. Barbe advances to play the Denham Springs-East Ascension winner in the quarterfinals in New Iberia.

The St. Charles Catholic High School Comets fell 6-2 to Parkview Baptist High School Friday, one of the top-seeded teams in Baton Rouge.

The 27-6 Eagles scored four runs in the second inning, while holding the Comets back until the fifth and sixth innings, where the Comets scored one run in each. A Brad Millet single brought in the Comets’ first run, then Chris Cancienne raised the stakes with an RBI double in the sixth.

The Eagles maintained their four-point lead by also adding one run in each of the two innings.

The Eagles threw Matt Greenwich (10-0), who totalled 113 pitches in his six innings, with eight strike outs. On the mound for the Comets, Jason Waguespack (8-2) pitched a complete game with seven strike outs.

Parkview’s final run and tenth hit came off a solo home run. The Comets finished the game and their season with only five hits.
