The St. James Boat Club, Inc. Is preparing to hold its 35th Annual Choupique Rodeo Festival. The fresh water fishing rodeo is scheduled for April 6 and 7.

Activities during the Choupique Rodeo include: bands playing Saturday including Jared Perk, and Sunday such as Rusty Yates at 1-4 p.m. and Preston Blanchard at 6 – 9 p.m.

There will also be a horseshoe tournament, boat show, airboat rides, games, airbrush t-shirts, train rides and plenty of food and drinks. The Choupique Rodeo requires a small registration fee to enter fish in the contest, but that entry fee also entitles participants for a chance in the drawings of the 1st prize 14-foot aluminum flatboat, complete with outboard motor and trailer. Other prizes include a picnic table and a cypress swing.

The St. James Boat Club is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization located on U.S. 61 and Blind River in St. James Parish, with members from Baton Rouge to New Orleans and the surrounding areas.

Proceeds from this fundraiser will help run, maintain and improve our facility of boat launches, docks, parking lot, picnic areas and shelters. There are ducks, chickens, geese, rabbits, peacocks and deer for the viewing and feeding by the young and old visitors who visit.

The boat club also supports youth activities on site and is a proud sponsor of the Special Olympics.
