EDGARD – West St. John High School senior Devin Herbert signed an agreement this week to play collegiate football with Southern University in Baton Rouge.
Herbert will receive a full scholarship to play for the jaguars. He said he was recruited by Southern University Head Football Coach Pete Richardson to play running back.
As running back for the West St. John Rams, Herbert tallied more than 1,600 yards rushing and 31 touchdowns in his senior year. He also set a school record for a single game performance, rushing for 256 yards and five touchdowns against Jewel Sumner this past season.
“Devin is a great student-athlete. He’s an outstanding running back, and he can also compete at other positions. He can return kick-offs and punts, play in the tail back position and at defensive back,” said West St. John High School Head Coach Laury Dupont.
Dupont also noted that Herbert, who is a four-year letterman for West St. John High School, received All-District, All-River Parishes, All-Metro, and All-State honors at the running back position, and he was recognized as an Academic All-State.
