BATON ROUGE – Richlyn LeBlanc, a junior at the Louisiana School for the Deaf and Convent resident, was selected for the all-Tournament team at the Leopard Classic Basketball tournament.
The tournament was held at the Arkansas School for the Deaf Dec. 7-8 of last year. LeBlanc, 18, played point guard and averaged 8.3 points per game, 7.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game.
The Louisiana School for the Deaf War Eagles also won the free throw competition at the tournament.
“I am very proud of him. He’s come a long way and learned a lot since he started at the Louisiana School in 1996,” said his mother Alma LeBlanc.
LeBlanc said her son started playing basketball in the front yard with his friends when he was about 13 years old and has since taken up football, weightlifting and track as well.
“He’s the one who makes all the touchdowns,” said LeBlanc. “He plays running back, wide receiver and quarterback.”
LeBlanc said her son loves sports, has plenty of friends and has met many people through school, but said he enjoys studying and wants to begin a major in college working with computers.
