Tigers edge Wildcats, 6-4, take share of district title

The Hahnville Tigers played the spoiler on Saturday, beating the Destrehan Wildcats 6-4 and taking a share of the district 7-5A title. Destrehan (15-12) held the Tigers scoreless for four innings and kept the issue in doubt until the seventh. That’s when Lee Tregre hit a two RBI double that tied the game. Tregre was then brought in by an RBI single by Kyle Mineo, ending the game. Destrehan took the lead in the third inning, scoring four runs. Tery Simon and Larry Matherne each got two hits. The Wildcat offense slowed down in the last four innings, with only two hits being allowed by Hahnville. In other 7-5A district games, South Terrebone High School beat East St. John High School 7-0. While East St. John (11-14) managed four hits, none scored. East St. John allowed nine hits and committed three errors; South Terrebonne (13-19) committed only one error. In non-district play over the weekend, St. Charles High School beat Ridgewood 14-3. St. Charles (13-17) allowed seven hits and commited three errors, but only allowed three runs to score. Ridgewood (17-11) allowed 11 hits and commited five errors. Riverside (18-10) beat Christian Life (21-8) 7-6 in extra innings, scoring the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Riverside (18-11) then lost to Lutcher (record n/a) as the Bulldogs scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and held on to win by a score of 2-1. Bethany took a double header from Reserve Christian, winning by scores of 4-3 and 17-0.
