BATON ROUGE- It took a seventh inning surge and a lucky break for the Lutcher Bulldogs to beat the Parkview Eagles 2-0 Friday. With two out and two on base, Parkview pitcher Alicia Harris threw a wild pitch that advanced the runners to second and third. But in retrieving the pitch and attempting to throw out Jennifer Kliebert as she raced to third, Parkview catcher Kelli Evins instead sealed the game as her throw went off the glove of third baseman Trisha Langlois, allowing Kliebert and Jennie Louque to score. The game was a pitchers duel between Lutcher’s Michelle Roussel and Harris. Roussel held the Eagles scoreless through seven innings, struck out seven batters, and allowed only two hits while at one point Harris retired 14 Bulldog batters in a row. “It’s always one or two runs with us,” said Bulldogs coach Helen L. Funk. “Michelle did a great job, just with her composure and everything else. She’s the team leader.” “I wanted them to score and get us some runs, and that’s exactly what they did. After that, I knew it was enough,” said Roussel. Lutcher will play Teurlings in the quarterfinals at Sulphur at 1 p.m. Friday.
