Minnich apparent winner of chairmanship position

HAHNVILLE – District Seven Councilman Barry Minnich was the sole nominee to the 2001 chairmanship of the St. Charles Parish Council Monday night.However, there will be a vote at the Dec. 18 meeting for vice-chair.Nominees are Darnell “Dee” Abadie, who is the incumbent vice-chairman, and Clayton “Snookie” Faucheux. Abadie, of Destrehan, is the District ThreeCouncilwoman. Faucheux, of Luling, is the Division B At-Large Councilman.The current chairman, Terry Authement of Mozella, was not nominated to continue in the position.
In other business, the parish council: Refused in a 5-4 vote to pay $10,126.57 on an economic impact studyfirst approved in March 1999 when the contract went over budget. Thestudy, by Krebs, LaSalle, LeMieux Consultants Inc. was authorized not toexceed $18,800 in the study, plus $1,000 in printing costs. The study endedup at $28,926.57. Recognized Barbara Forshag of Eual Landry Sr. Middle School, who wasnamed Louisiana Teacher of the Year, Recognized the St. Rose Pirates, age 9-10 parish champion football team. Announced public forums on New Orleans International Airport expansion, set Jan. 8 in Destrehan, Jan. 9 in Kenner and Jan. 10 in New Orleans, from 7to 10 p.m., Approved the 2001 meeting schedule, Announced the annual Christmas celebration on Dec. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. inthe West Bridge Park, along with the St. Charles Rotary Club, Was commended by Dale Estay of Paradis for the council and administration’s efforts to establish a public recreational park in Paradis.
